Centre for the Recognition of Human Personhood
Every
day, new events occur which threaten the dignity of one or another
category of human beings who are the victims of exclusion because
of their religious or political opinions, their ethnical
origin (racism), their sex, their age (foetus,
children, elderly people), their health (victims of AIDS,
deeply handicapped subjects, "incurable" patients threaten
by euthanasia), their social condition (unemployed people,
homeless) etc.
Now,
although their is a general agreement to acknowledge the eminent
dignity of every single human person, such an agreement is
far from existing as regards the meaning of "person"
or even of "human
being" as well as
about the foundations of their "dignity".
Hence,
since its foundation in 1992 by a group of academics and researchers
in Poitiers with the support of the C.N.R.S., of the Foundation
de France and of the Poitiers University Medical Centre, the C.E.R.P.H.'s
purpose is to promote and support research and documentation projects,
in Life Sciences, Philosophy, Law and Human Sciences, aimed at collecting
elements leading to recognise the humanity and the personhood of
a living being, as well as the foundations and content of his/her
dignity, and to clarify the way in which individuals form an opinion
about these serious questions.
Therefore,
the Centre's purpose, through its multidisciplinary vocation, is:
-
To
weave networks of co-operations around this project, in France
as well as on an international scale and to dispatch the results
by means of its Newsletter ;
-
To include in this reflection those who share similar interests
such as politicians, journalists, associations,
institutions, etc.
-
and to put at their disposal information's from its data base (PERSDATA)
devoted to matters concerning the human personhood and dignity and
currently developed by the Centre from both newspapers and specialised
journals.

A
basic notice !
Our
approach stems from the observation that beyond religious,
philosophical, political or cultural cleavages, any of us,
according to his or her knowledge's and convictions, turns
out to be more or less concerned or indifferent with regard
to one or another offence to human dignity.
|
Hence,
we believe, the need of a forum which could favour relations and
exchanges amongst moral or physical persons, French or from foreign
countries, and take advantage of their complementary nature as regards
the issues of societal mutations in terms of respect of the human
person and its dignity.
However
such an initiative will only make sense with the support and the
mutual respect of a panel as large as possible of sensitivities,
options and competencies that our forum should promote and facilitate
the expression.
If
you agree with us that the impact of our reflection mainly concerns
our choices of society in the future, you can help us by becoming
a member of the Centre and/or participating
to our forums
